Set Design for Essence Magazine Digital Cover

As a set designer, I collaborated with Essence magazine to design and construct a captivating set for the digital cover of the "Of the Essence” publication. My role involved meticulous attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and preparations through experimentation and research. I communicated and translated their vision into a tangible and visually striking set that complemented Meagan Goods's unique style and story. The collaborative nature of this project allowed me to showcase my ability to work harmoniously with photographers, videographers, publication editors, stylists, makeup artists, and production staff. This experience not only honed my skills in creative direction but also solidified my understanding of the intersection between design, storytelling, and brand identity.

Set Design for Washingtonian September Issue Cover Story

I curated 18 distinctive sets tailored for nine influential trendsetters in Washington, each designed to showcase their styles for the September 2022 Issue. Overcoming challenges such as preparing materials and constructing adaptable sets that harmonized with the unique aesthetic of each "style setter," we navigated tight time constraints—a mere 15-20 minutes between subjects—to reimagine and transform the sets creatively. Collaborating closely with the stylist, we orchestrated the seamless creation of each set to enhance the final image, capturing the essence of their style and personality.

Set Design for Black Future, a short film

As a set designer, I worked with the director to make strategic decisions on how to bring this futuristic world to life. I sourced the costumes and materials for each scene and designed each set to create a holistic and seamless experience throughout the short film.

Black Futures is one of five winning short films part of the Future First challenge hosted by Instagram, Howard University (@howard1867), and filmmaker Melina Matsoukas (@msmelina). Watch the full short film here.
